Time Machine Inc. (TMI) is celebrating 40 years of business. From our humble beginnings in 1981 when Jeff Latchaw first Incorporated the Company, Time Machine has grown to become one of Western Pennsylvania’s premier contract CNC machining service providers!
As a young man in High school, Jeff attended the local Technology center studying to be a Machinist and while honing his skills, Jeff knew then, he was determined to open his own Machine shop someday. Jeff started buying machines at a young age to launch his dream and with his father’s help he purchased a used Bridgeport Mill and Lathe which they housed in the basement of an old house being used for a Businesswomen’s Club. One of his first jobs was machining parts being sold to local oil field businesses. While most teenagers were more interested in passing the drivers exam, Jeff had bigger plans!
TMI started when Jeff’s father added onto an existing building that his brother Tod, was using as a used car dealership. He added a 50’ X 80’ building on the back of this building to store his equipment for his construction business. Jeff was working at a local machine shop by then making $3.75/hr., and decided he wanted to start his own business. He asked his dad if he could put a couple machines in the back corner of this building to start his own shop. Within a year he had the building full of machines and his father never did get to use the building for its intended purpose!
His first job was for a local forging company machining sump pumps, and from there, he started machining hubs for a well-known local Underground Mining Equipment company. Since then, our facility has grown to 60,000 square feet of floor space and houses 30 CNC turning and milling centers of various sizes. Our customer base has grown to include companies within the Surface Mining Equipment, Oil & Gas Valves and Pumps, Industrial Process Mixing Equipment, Nuclear Power Reactor Valves, Locomotive and Rail Car manufacturing, Construction Equipment, Steel Mill Processing equipment, Water & Wastewater Pumps & Valves, Defense, and the Aerospace industries.
Time Machine started with just two employees and as time progressed and the business grew, brothers Mike and Tod got involved in the business and became partners. Today, Time Machine has over 50 employees and recently purchased Skinner Power Systems in Erie, PA. Skinner produces single stage steam turbines which are used for applications in power generation, pump drives, fan drives and other mechanical drive application. Many of the components used in these steam turbines are machined within Time Machine’s facility.
Our quality department has grown to include four Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) capable of meeting all our First Article, In-process, and final inspection requirements. We are ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100 certified. We have both our ITAR and HUBZone certifications as well.
Time Machine wishes to thank all its existing customers and welcomes those who will soon come to appreciate our commitments to quality and service. Without you, this celebration of 40 years of service, would not be possible.
